I'm sorry...a micrometer. I haven't used one since tech school and forgot what they were called.

Imho......very

yes yes yes ..no nitrogen gives clogged **** making call backs..had a clogged dryer where i pulled the txv first and still had problem in dryer not txv..costly mistake

There is one other hvac tech I know that flows nitrogen while brazing and uses a micron guage while vacuuming. Everyone else vacuums through the manifold and when it gets to 30" its good. Most of the guys I know don't even purge their hoses when hooking up to a system. I do the best I know how and that is why I flow nitro and use a micron guage.

30" of vacuum does not exist on this planet-----thus one more reason for a micron thermister type micron measuring device.

If you ask most people around here how they pull a vacuum they say "I hooked my vacuum pump up and my blue gauge pulled right down to negative 30 so its good to go".

it just makes too much sense to not do it, I've seen the crap that comes out of the lines when not flowing, I've even not done it myself in the old days, kind of feel ashamed at the thought of just how much "stuff" was left inside after a brand new cooler/freezer install, with long line runs and lots of fittings. thank goodness better practices came along and systems have a much better chance to live a long and healthy life !

For most it probly depends on the situation.

Sometimes you do whatcha gotta do

If im slammed with work , and all I did was fix a leak , the unit will most likely get a 10 minute vac while im packing up , and im outta there

Its better than some guys i know "awe just push the air out by leaving the shrader open on other side while releasing refrig
"

There is a right way and a wrong way to do things. There's also a lot of little "in between" ways to do things.

I've probably done every one of them over the years.

We all know what is right and what is wrong. Most of us who have been around for a few years also know what we can "get away with" if we need to.

Keep in mind that you can also use argon or CO2 instead of nitrogen for brazing. (They're generally not used since they're more expensive.) In a pinch, air duster can be used for leak finding (though less effective than nitrogen), removing dirt and water from piping, and breaking the vacuum for triple evacuation, but not for brazing.

How about 29.92 ?
i knew it was 29.something lol use micron gage and let it hold then come back to see if still same
also if you dnt know already..you need two sets of gages bc the different oils do not mix btween r22 and r410.. the oils can sludge up ur gages if you dnt
