No, I will have a company to remove the actual 75 gallon and replace it with another one. Btw, I am not sure I could legally touch the gas line to the water heater. And even if I could, I would not :)

I'll check out the Ruud. Those babies can be pricey.

Ruud is good, there's also AO Smith and Bradford White.. you're probably not going to go wrong with any of those.

Really, the same advice applies here as with hvac. Find an installer you trust, and get the brand they sell and are comfortable with. That's a lot more important than the sticker on the tank.

On a side note, you might ask the guy about replacing the 75 with (2x) 40's.

More heating capacity. This is really handy if anybody likes to do laundry and/or dishes while you're in the shower, if your wife has a whirlpool tub, or if you have one or more teenage daughters.

Thanks for the reply. Actually, we have more capacity than we need.

I plugged the water heater into a timer and have it "ON" for an hour at 6:00AM and another hour at 6:00PM during the week. On weekend, if we use the whirlpool and take showers, then we turn the water heater on prior to using the whirlpool and shut it off right after. Makes quite a difference on my gas bill. This water heater has the bad habit of turning on right after you have consumed about a gallon or two of hot water. And it is simply not needed. Thermostat is set at "very hot".
