Which is worse, to have an hvac system that sucks or blowes? I have a customer with airflow problems and can't seem to balance the supply air volume aganst a weak return and aim getteinng all sorts od hot spots and cold spots thruout the home .

We did a load calc on this three thousand sq ft residence (lotsa glass with cathederal ceilings) and we had an engineeer design the duct work.
Five tons was called for in cooling. but the the engineer only called for one furnace.

What makes me more itchey ove this he used only one cold air drop to the sie of the furnace when all mafg install manuals
call for wo side or bottom return for two thousand cfm.

now we have roms blowing and sucking either less or more than they should. We brought in a pro to balance the system but h he threw up his hands in frustrartion after taking the a few readings.eading.

I think two furnaces should have been the way to go ; but as they say hin sighg is 20-20.

It's my daught and d son in law's home and the new son inlaw
owed favors o h paid tem back by lrtting his jack legg builder fiend do a lot of their ew home.

Any body got any solutions that wll alw me to keep peace n the faily

Simple...don't do major work for a family member. No good can come of it.

This is a joke, right?
Not a jke an no looking for a fight.

Recvoering fom a strok I had when the mechanical systems went in, that's why the bad spelling,

But noughof me;

My technical expertsw was affcted worst.
My question to you guy is what wwould be a better trade off: Correcting the the prob by installing two furnace twinned and two individuaized condensers with the 2nd floor (it's a colonial style home)having it's own sste and zone amaperered.
i think ww'd have to resize the cold air trunk and dropa gooldy portion of the way back down sfeam
Tell me whar you think.

My regards if you truly are afflicted from a stroke, but that does not negate the fact that some pretty odd things have been brought up here.

Besides; we shouldn't be getting in the middle of a family feud.

Is there room to lift the furnace and have it placed on a R/A box. The R/A drop connects to the box and the furnace bottom is open (Southwark SB36). I think Acme's has a filter drawer. If the ducts are sized correctly this should improve your R/A flow.

What does the "engineer" have to say about your concerns? If his design doesn't work, that's who you consult.

This has all been very vague thus far. Do we have any basic readings to work with?

If balance is your issue then it seems to me merely increasing total airflow isn't going to help much. Not to mention that the building envelope may be your issue more than the HVAC. If so, zoning may be the only way to solve the problem.
