Im planning on buying some allen wrenches(hex keys)and im wondering which type i should buy the individual ones or the ones that fold up in one assembly? What type are better?

I have T handle for when massive torque is required you can put the box end of a wrench on it, get metal handle only. otherwise a nice folding index is nice if you dont use them often. Allen is a good brand but all my socket type are snap on or matco.

I use individual ones with ball end,T handles, screw driver handle ball ends, socket type and don't forget torx set, all have their uses.Get craftman so when they wear you can get new ones for nothin'.

So are you confused yet? This is probably the wrong place to ask about tools...everyone has they're own preference and some get kinda rediculous. My advice to you is buy whatever tools tickle your fancy and if you don't like them then toss em out.

Been there done that.

Get something usefull 1st, then get the cool gadget one's 2nd.

I have one of them individual sets (in the plastic case thing) with a ball end, I tend to use them most. I also have a set of the folding type (straight end) as back up. And a set of socket one's for... well, I've never really used them on anything HVAC.... but they come in handy from time to time.

get good ones with the ball end its only on one end and good ones are less likely to snap off the ball

secondly get a second set with out balls (ha) a foot long - I have a foot long set as occasionally I use em to reach a screw on a blower wheel (yes some do still have em)

All sets I use regulary are the loose type although I do have a pocketkinfe style set or two

Yes I agree with the ball end... Klein are very good allen wrenches.

Multi-keys don't fit most blower housings from the outside.

i have tried, craftsman, klein, allen, bondhous, and eckland. never again, these are junk the steel is weaker than the fastener that you are tring to remove. i use these now http://buy1.snapon.com/catalog/item...m.asp?P65=&tool=hand&item_ID=15478&group_ID=2140&store=snapon-store&dir=catalog haven't stripped an allen head bolt or set screw yet with these, and the ball end will hold up to more than a full 1/2 turn of twist so i would not worry about them breaking off. i have bought 2 sets so far only because i lost a few popular sizes

i didn't mean they twist up and stay that way, i mean i have torqued them more than a 1/2 turn with a nutdriver on the short end trying to loosen something, eventually the bolt always breaks free and the wrenches spring back to normal, i havent broke a ball end off these ever
