I checked out a Kenmore Heat Pump for an elderly couple in their 80's. They bought the Heat Pump from Sears in 2007. The compressor & run capacitor are bad. After examining their paperwork from Sears, I found that they have a 5 year service agreement through Sears. The problem is they live in a rural area that all the Sears service people won't come to because of the long distance, ( over 100 miles from the nearest one.) If they don't send anyone by the end of today, want to try & find out who made the equipment, so that maybe I could get the compressor covered by the equipment manufacturer. Does anyone here know who manufactures Kenmore Heat Pumps for Sears?

It doesn't look like a goodman unit, I have installed & serviced several pieces of goodman equipment over the years. The only warranty sheet they had, was from nordyne, but that may have been for the inside coil that was installed at the same time. If no one from Sears shows up today, I will go over tomorrow& get more info., (model , serial #'s, etc.) & take a couple of pics of the cond. unit. As always, this time of year I am so busy, that I didn't get to spend as much time on it as I would have liked to.

Just pulled a kenmore today, about 10 years old.

ICP.

In 2002 ICP became the exclusive maker of Kenmore htg and a/c units.
ICP is owned by the same co.that owns carrier but kenmore is not a carrier unit.It is more like a Heil,Arcoaire,Comfortmaker,Day & Night,or Tempstar.

After doing a little research, I am pretty sure I am dealing with a Tempstar unit, with a Kenmore label & Model #. So that would make you right, it is ICP. I also noticed that on the ICP USA site, the list Day & Night as one of their brands, hence the Carrier connection. I do believe you are also right about Nordyne being involved too, but not sure yet.

Thanks REP, I had already posted when I read your reply. You are correct, this unit is a Tempstar. Now we are getting somewhere, I will contact the local Tempstar distributor on monday to find out if they will cover the part warranty. Thanks all for the help!

Not sure so take it for what its worth, but I thought Nordyne did.
Just for your records Nordyne is related to Frigidaire,Westuinghouse,Kelvinator,Broan,Gibson,Philco,Tappan,Maytag,Miller, and Intertherm.
I guess their idea is if you can't beat them and if they ever made a kitchen stove or refrigerator ,,,then buy them or rent their "name"

The Kenmore brand goes out for bid every 5 years or so. Goodman made them through 2002 when ICP started marketing under the Sears Kenmore brand. Sears has it's own warranties on the Kenmore brand.

HVAC SYSTEMS

Carrier, Payne, Kenmore, Bryant are all made by United Technologies and for the most part have the same inside guts, (like Ford, Lincoln and Mercury) ICP is who makes Kenmore now and the Kenmore systems are great but like anything else you get good ones and bad ones. Someone who says "oh dont go with a Kenmore because they are junk has ZERO clue about hvac systems bc it virtually is the same as Carrier, Bryant and Payne so all these people who are just reading these trash websites need to keep their 2 cents to themselves especially if they have no hvac experience with selling or installing.

Also Sears should go out to the couples house, I have never heard of their 5 year MPA saying anything about distance, if they bought a MPA it covers parts and labor and any service calls are free.
