My car is getting too hot in the garage. When I put my kids in it, I feel awful, and I don't like turning on the car beforehand to cool it off. I'd rather just keep the whole garage cool, and then they can play out there too. It's not that big, I think it's a basic two car. There are no windows, so I cant use a window AC, but someone mentioned I could use a portable AC if I vented the hot air out the ceiling? I'm looking at some recommended picks on a website, but I don't know much about them. I kinda like the NewAir 12000E Can you help? Has anyone used NewAir before?

It will depend on how large your garage is and how you'll use the A/C. If you want have it set to come on at a certain hour (vs. running all night) you will need to go with a larger unit.
I don't think a 1 ton unit will cool the garage to your liking.

If it were mine, I'd just install some fresh air ventilation by means of an attic fan or something similar.

I'd love to have an air conditioned garage, but I'm too cheap to pay for the unit and the power to run it.

Maybe a little heater for wintertime.......

Kids are tough, they'll adapt.

Anybody using a portable needs to get a 2 pipe unit. The one pipe units use inside cool air for the condenser and exhaust the hot air out. This means it is sucking lots of cool air out of the space meaning a lot of hot air has to infiltrate to replace it. This could almost kill any cooling effect especially if this is outside air being sucked in.

1 pipe units should be eliminated. About the only time it might be worth using is as a suplement for a hard to cool room where air sucked out of that room comes from the rest of a cool house. But still, that 200-300 CFM exhausted has to come from outside eventually :(

Have an evaporative cooler installed. An A/C's effect will be lost every time the roll up opens or a hot car is pulled in. Plus the nergy usage. An evap cooler puts out a lot of outside air, tempered by water pads.

I'd have to agree with smilies, you will probably be happier since all it is is a small blower motor and not a ac unit.

This is a sound idea - IF and only if, the person asking lives an an area where the climate is DRY. That's a big IF.

I apologize that I never posted a thank you to this for all the responses! We actually did go with an evaporative swamp cooler - and we loved it!
