Thanks for the advice, I was thinking of that...I came here to ask for an opinion as my last resort before I went any further and spend more money.
By the way, would you like to write a letter stating the perils of purchasing online and/ or dealing with a company that does not go through all the required processes in installing the system? I would love to show it to my customers.

Well you did the right thing, you are not alone, lot of folks come here to late, but at least you come here. Now your not clueless, and can utilize some of the opinions you received. Please come back and let us know how things are going, and even come back and ask our opinions on the solutions other company's have offered, that is what were here for.
Thank you so much Mr Bill I will do that, you guys are great and I thank you all for your time and responses.

You probably have the sympathy of most of us; we know everyone's trying to save money; I don't think split-system A/Cs & heat pumps should be sold to the general public.

I was going to explain some possible solutions, but thought better of it.

I don't know how I can make you feel better... this is indeed a sad situation.

Go ahead and post it here. I am sure I am not the only one that would like to have a first hand account of what we all warn our customers about.

Thanks!

Hope we were of some help and I am sure we all wish you the best.
I will, give me some time...

Thanks again for the the feedback and time.

Best regards to you all

What? Color of wires... Don't believe those silly colors they don't mean anything and yes 2 wires fine from the ODU... 5 ton unit with a 3 ton needed... What size is the Indoor coil?

Your post is confusing pros so I would get a pro out there.

Call HVAC Company

Call HVAC Company
What is confusing, he bought a 5-ton heat pump online and was told it was a 3-ton and he has three-ton equipment indoors. It appears he may have had a heat pump before with wires available but maybe not.

A hack company came out for a sum no competent contractor would accept and left him with a non functioning system.

He has been told and understands he made an error in judgement and will now have to pay for a compentant and professional contractor to determine and perform the necessary fix.

What he needs from us now is to recommend a company in his area of NJ to help him.

In this economy, we are all trying to save a buck where we can. But when you are making an investment as large, or one you will live so closely to and for as long as an HVAC system, skimping on educating yourself OR $$ can really be a costly mistake.

Do your homework! And this means HOURS of research over days and maybe weeks - or more! AND, plan on paying for what you expect and expect what you pay for.

In this case, unfortunately... you got exactly what your preparation and planning earned you. Education is never free; count this as a learning experience.

Lesson: It costs much less to do it right the first time than to try get by with the cheapest.

Now… share your experience with your friends, family, co-workers, anyone who will listen so they to wont get caught in the same trap.

Heres an idea!

Buy a 3t on compressor off ebay and make the 5ton a 3ton.

Then figure out why the freeon is not circulationg through the coils inside.

Thats probably what killed the old one.
