What are the differences between the Ak900, the 1200 and the 1250? I'm ready to pull the trigger and just want to get the model that will work best for me.

Thanks

I've had a good experience with my Testo 550's. I have had some issues, mainly breaking the sensors, but the problems were resolved quickly through the warranty process. I've had nothing but good expeirence working with testo. I do want to aquire a set of digicools, but haven't decided which model to purchase as of yet. I'm waiting to see what the deal is with the AK900.

You mean the stock wire on the DRSA sensors?

Actually, it is premium stuff. Silicone insulation for better flexibility at low temperatures. Thin wire for low thermal mass.

The wiring on the AK-900 is a bit stiffer, a bit thicker and a bit tougher, but I still managed to break the lead to one sensor.

Read medic's thread again. He details the sensor resistance required to be off enough to matter, and I think it's pretty crazy high, IIRC.

Th

Cooper recommends not going over 1000 ft with the thermistor leads.

http://www.cooper-atkins.com/productspecsheet.asp?pid=259

The thermal mass of any wires outside the sensor itself is 100% irrelevant to sensor accuracy or reaction time. In my conversion the original super fine leads are still attached at the sensor. These are not thermocouples, the connecting wires are just wires. The only affect of my audio cables in the conversion is their ohmic resistance which is entirely negligible. I could run them up to several hundred feet with no significant measurement error and absolutely zero effect on reaction time.

However, don't get the connectors wet. I had one male to female connection drop down into a puddle of water today and my SC reading went to negative 20 degrees. Blew out the female jack and it went right back to normal, so no biggie, but something to keep in mind if you use extensions with this conversion.

digi cool in 99% of my work.
the analogs come out occassionallly
usually when i have the digi cools on a job & have no choice.
when he gets ready to market the new manifold i will be paintely
waiting in the line for them. have nothing on the market at this
time to even compare with the digi cool 900 or the 1250.
ihe sensors are a pita to repair & the connectors are hard to come by unless you are buying in a bulk amount.

ak-- it isn't available yet.

testo 550 -- reviews are mixed. I don't own this DMG but I have checked one out. I just wasn't impressed enough to buy it. It's cumbersome to use. That's just my opinion.

SMAN3 -- k-type temperature input is the only point against it so far IMO. With frequent calibration that isn't a real issue, but something to take into consideration before buying. Pricewise I don't think you'll get a better DMG in that range. FWIW I have about $900 tied up in my digi-cool 1250. I wouldn't trade it for any of the above three DMGs. However, if I had it to do over, I might have spent that money more wisely. That's a lot of money, that most of the time I wish I had back in my bank account.

I'm a 1 man show and I have alot of new systems to set. I'm ready to pull the trigger on a new set of digitals but still after 3 days of reading a searching more confused than when I started. I have several Fieldpiece meters now and they all seem pretty accurate. I really don't want to be into them for more than $500 w/low loss hoses. I know the Testo 550's and the SMAN3 can be had for that but haven't found pricing on the AK900 yet. Are there other worthwhile superheat/subcooling analyzer/manifolds? I'm more than capable of doing the math, but I would really like to make life easier. Thanks I hope I'm not highjacking.

If you already have k type pipe clamps (such as the blue Fieldpiece ATC1 or the gray Fluke pipe clamp), you can save 100 bucks with the Fieldpiece SMAN2. Suggested trade price on the SMAN2 $319 vs $419 for the SMAN3. The only differences between the SMAN2 and the SMAN3 are the included pipe clamps and built in micron gauge.

It looks like you are considering all the right brands so I'm sure you'll be happy with whatever you choose!

Our guys love the SMAN3. Three of four supply houses carry Fieldpiece temperature clamps, so we're covered there.

All but two of my guys have them now, and the two that don't, won't give up their YJ analogs...
